Or, Could he be both John the Baptist of ancient times and also Elijah in the spirit as one of the 2 witnesses?
This person takes a completely different approach to the question - who are the 2 witnesses: The Two Olive Trees and Two Witnesses, however, seem to be representative of the pure, invisible Church as seen from heaven. Here the invisible, Spirit-filled Church is reduced to its most vital component of Witness to the Christ - its most vital function upon earth! So the Olive Trees are the Two Witnesses, first foreshadowed by the ministries of Elijah and Elisha and then initially realized under the New Covenant by John the Baptist and Jesus, but now continuing to be realized wherever Christians preach the gospel! So, in a real sense, we are all part of the mission of the Two Witnesses! It should be seen at once that this is a wholly biblical approach which does not cut Revelation loose from the rest of God's Word - which should not happen. Once we can see that Revelation 11 is set in the age of the Church's worldwide mission, we can see that we do not necessarily need to posit any future specific individuals yet to arrive on the world scene. As specific individuals, John the Baptist and Jesus have already come and gone, yet those of us who go out and witness with the gospel continue to wear their mantle, continuing the witness of the Church - Luke 10: 1-2, Acts 1: 8. A few commentators agree that Revelation needs to be 'earthed' on the rest of God's Word and uphold the principle for a while, but then appear to suddenly cast aside the principle, indulging in all kinds of flights of fancy! But we should be cautious! This is the inspired Word of God which must be treated with respect - read the warning of Revelation 22: 18-19!... http://www.ukapologetics.net/2witnesses.htm
From the above article: "As specific individuals, John the Baptist and Jesus have already come and gone, yet those of us who go out and witness with the gospel continue to wear their mantle, continuing the witness of the Church" Just as Elisha received the mantle from Elijah - we who witness with the gospel are carrying the mantle of John the Baptist and Jesus...
Jesus made the greatest sacrifice anyone could for another person. Along with that sacrifice he made us witnesses to the gospel. Nevertheless, whatever we care to do with that is up to us - because God gave us a free will... ---- Rev 1:1...Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, 6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
Although one does not have to preach the gospel to receive a special blessing - reading, hearing and heeding Gods' word will merit one a blessing: Rev 1:3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein
How can one know the gospel? A large part of it is the fact that God - sent his son to us. And his son was sacrificed for our sins: John 3:16 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
From got questions: What is the gospel? Small excerpt: Answer: The word gospel literally means “good news” and occurs 93 times in the Bible, exclusively in the New Testament. In Greek, it is the word euaggelion, from which we get our English words evangelist, evangel, and evangelical. The gospel is, broadly speaking, the whole of Scripture; more narrowly, the gospel is the good news concerning Christ and the way of salvation. The key to understanding the gospel is to know why it’s good news. To do that, we must start with the bad news. The Old Testament Law was given to Israel during the time of Moses (Deuteronomy 5:1). The Law can be thought of as a measuring stick, and sin is anything that falls short of “perfect” according to that standard. The righteous requirement of the Law is so stringent that no human being could possibly follow it perfectly, in letter or in spirit. Despite our “goodness” or “badness” relative to each other, we are all in the same spiritual boat—we have sinned, and the punishment for sin is death, i.e. separation from God, the source of life (Romans 3:23). In order for us to go to heaven, God’s dwelling place and the realm of life and light, sin must be somehow removed or paid for. The Law established the fact that cleansing from sin can only happen through the bloody sacrifice of an innocent life (Hebrews 9:22). https://www.gotquestions.org/what-is-the-gospel.html
More on the above article: The elements of the gospel are clearly stated in 1 Corinthians 15:3–6, a key passage concerning the good news of God: “For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living.” Notice, first, that Paul “received” the gospel and then “passed it on”; this is a divine message, not a man-made invention.
It's a bold message: Continue from the above article: The gospel is a bold message, and we are not ashamed of proclaiming it. It is a powerful message, because it is God’s good news. It is a saving message, the only thing that can truly reform the human heart. It is a universal message, for Jews and Gentiles both. And the gospel is received by faith; salvation is the gift of God
One last important point from the above article: To reject the gospel is to embrace the bad news. Condemnation before God is the result of a lack of faith in the Son of God, God’s only provision for salvation. “For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son” (John 3:17–18). God has given a doomed world good news: the Gospel of Jesus Christ!
From this article featured in Rapture forums: The Two Witnesses: In my book series, I go with Enoch and Elijah; but no one knows for sure except God. However, the Two Witnesses will cause a bad day for a whole lot of folk. They are to be given Divine power to thwart their enemies, and their enemies will be the people in the last days who begin to actually worship a world leader, a leader that the Bible refers to as the anti-Christ and the Beast...
It should be noted that the gospel received from the 2 witnesses is a gospel from God himself: Rev 14:6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, --- Rev 1:1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John: 2 Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.
We know a lot about Elijah - but who is Enoch? Wiki: According to the Book of Genesis, Enoch (/ˈiːnək/; Hebrew: חֲנוֹך‎; Ḥanōḵ) was a son of Cain, and father of Irad. After Cain arrived in the Land of Nod, to which he was evicted by the Lord as his punishment for murdering his brother Abel, his wife became pregnant and bore Cain's first child, whom he named Enoch.
Enoch had a rare personal friendship with God: This article sheds some light on that friendship: Friendship With God - A Look at the Life of Enoch Excerpt: Near the beginning of biblical history, we find a man known for friendship with God. We do not know much about the life of Enoch, but we do know that “after he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked faithfully with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters” (Gen. 5:22). It seems that, at the age of 65, when Enoch’s son Methuselah was born, Enoch experienced a personal revival. From then on, in his life of 365 years, he walked faithfully with God... https://www.margiefleurant.org/blog/2018/5/7/friendship-with-god-a-look-at-the-life-of-enoch
More from thew above article: He was a family man, with a wife and children and responsibilities. Yet he learned to cultivate intimacy with God in the midst of daily life. As a result, in the space of three verses, the fact that Enoch walked faithfully is mentioned twice. This repetition is not by accident.
We learn a little about Enoch in the book of Genesis - where there are 3 verses devoted to him The first verse is Genesis 5:21 As noted above Enoch had a son at 65 - not that he died by the age of 65: And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah
There are some interesting facts about Methuselah: He lived 969 years. This was back in the pre-flood era when nearly all lived extremely long lives. Methuselah may not hold the record of living longer than anyone else, but he does hold the record for living longer than any one else RECORDED
Also - if one will take the time to do the calculations, the global flood of Noah's fame came IMMEDIATELY AFTER Methuselah's death. As some preachers have suggested, it is almost as though God was waiting for Methuselah to die before he rained down (pun intended) his judgment on the earth.
Methuselah had a son named Lamech who became the father of Noah
Just like the flood didn't happen until Methuselah's died; some believe there will be a trigger point i.e. a righteous man's death before the great tribulation. Billy Graham's death for instance. https://www.burninghearts.org/the-heartbeat/billy-graham-methuselah-and-the-return-of-jesus
We know for sure - an evil man's possession by satan will trigger the start of the great tribulation and could quite possibly be accompanied by a righteous man's death. Matthew 24:15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) 21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
And the 2 witnesses death will trigger the return of Jesus. So yes - there will be trigger events the author alludes to
There will be so many events that will trigger the great tribulation - it would be impossible to miss; provided one is willing to "see" them. Another one besides the revealing of the antichrist is: Matt 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
From the big wobble: Almost a 2,000% increase in major quakes since 1900! 2000 to 2018 so far recorded 2,911 major quakes compared to 147-1900/1918 Today we will see the incredible rise of major quakes since 1900 and the mindblowing fact these statistics are not mentioned on MSM or even mentioned by our religious leaders, below is the famous quote from Jesus to His disciples... Luke 21: 10,11. Then he said to them: “Nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquakes, and in one place after another food shortages and pestilences; and there will be fearful sights and from heaven great signs. --- Matthew 24 states that earthquakes will be in diverse places...
As I've posted several times - the gog/magog war will be a huge event before the great tribulation
As I said I've posted this before - but here it is for those who've never read it: Why do I say the gog magog war takes place before the great tribulation? Because of these 5 verses: Daniel 8:23 And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up. (the transgressors are the Israelis) Then the antichrist will be revealed Matthew 24:15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) (When we see the antichrist in the holy place) Matthew 24:21.....21 For then shall be great tribulation Ezekiel 39:22 So the house of Israel shall know that I am the Lord their God from that day and forward. (This is after the gog magog war their transgressions come to full) Ezekiel 39:23 ...Israel went into captivity for their iniquity: because they trespassed against me, therefore hid I my face from them, and gave them into the hand of their enemies: so fell they all by the sword.
Here's a condensed explanation of each verse: Matthew 24:15,21 says - the antichrist will stand in the holy place - and then there shall be a great tribulation. Daniel 8:23 tells us - when the transgressors are come to full - the antichrist will stand up (this is the same antichrist in Matthew 24). We learn in Ezekiel 39 23 - it's the Israelis who are the transgressors and in verse 22 - after Israel witnesses the supernatural power of God during the Gog Magog war - they accept him from that day on as their God.
Events are moving so quickly in bible prophecy that I decided to do an update of:
Thread: All prophecies the bible says will happen in End Times are happening or almost completed at present
The bible tells us end times will start slowly and accelerate (like birth pangs) - that's what's happening today with disease, worldwide economic collapse, war, disasters, fukushima.
These are some end time events listed in bible that are true today:
Nation will rise against nation, kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquakes, disease and famine in diverse places. Mathew 24 and 1-4 seals of Revelation 6.
We have a global economy; the gov't can track everyone and the mark of the beast is ready.
The image of the beast that will move and speak can be transmitted to everyone's home.Rev. 13:14-15 - ALL on this earth will worship the image of the beast....
Political correctness has gone completely insane - people get fired for smallest infraction,
or utterance. Bible refers to this as many will be offended (Mathew 24:10)
Evil and perversity rules - especially on the internet. (Mathew 24:12)
There is a RISE IN SPIRITUALISM doctrines of the devils.1 Timothy 4:1 ...'Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.'
Jesus said we would see earthquakes in diverse places(Mathew 24:7) . Why would Jesus say this or why should we even care? Because the generation that SEEs earthquakes in diverse places is the generation that will see all prophecy fulfilled.
We ARE the only generation to ever have this capability.
How can we SEE earthquakes in diverse places? Well, here's an example:

He also says we will see nation rise against nation, kingdom against kingdom. Once again - we are the only generation to ever have this capability with live streaming.
How do I know it is literally SEEing.
Because Jesus in Luke 21 and in Mathew 24 tell us.
Luke 21 - To paraphrase Jesus in parable of the fig tree where he says - "when you see the trees sprout buds you know summer is near. LIKEWISE (same thing applies here) - when you SEE ALL these things.... i.e. earthquakes in diverse place; nation against nation...THIS is the generation will see all prophecies fulfilled".

Major events leading to fulfilled prophecy are happening in the middle east. 2 young jewish boys were given visions and dreams concerning these major events; both confirming we are essentially witnessing the Gog Magog war of Ezekiel 38, in the middle east today.

If the gog magog war hasn't started - the seeds are definitely germinating.....
God tells us we will have the capability to SEE the judgment he's pouring out on Israels enemies in this war.
Well, daily we are presented with videos and pictures of complete and utter destruction of Arab nations...Most notably Damascus - where the bible says will lie in a ruiness heap. Isa 17.
We're also witnessing the rise of the medes(ISIS) in Syria and Iraq. Isaiah 13 says "I will raise up the medes to destroy a wicked world."
ISIS is spreading it's fear and terror throughout the nations of the world.
I posted about that here:
Thread: All prophecies the bible says will happen in End Times are happening or almost completed at present (Page 41)
- about 1/2 way down the page I start with the alternative interpretation Of Isaiah 13; which describes the "day of the Lord"......or end times....
Isaiah 13:6 Howl ye; for the day of the Lord is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.
11 And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity
In Isaiah 24 we get the earth will reel to and fro, like a drunkard.
If you are keeping track of earthquakes - that's exactly what it looks to be doing.
Eventually, we will actually feel it rocking back and forth.
---------
Remember these are only "end times" prophecies and must all be true at same time.
Next, the list of completed end time prophecies fulfilled at present from last "All Prophecies" thread: Will add to it as more are considered fulfilled.....
