They were testing different political systems. These are scientists that we fight.

They put Bolshevik communism in 1917 in Russia. It killed 50 million people, conservatively.

They put Mao in 1949, that's declassified. The CIA put Mao in power, and then he proceeded to kill 40 million people.

They put Nazism in place (as a counter to communism) to see what that would do.
