I'm a vet and also support Donald Trump, but would like to know the other side of this story. Is there any truth to him dodging the draft?
I think most of the years he avoided the draft was when he was in college. As you know, men were were exempt while in college. My husband was exempt while in college....around the same time as Trump. He graduated, and a year later we had a big wedding. We both had a great jobs, we settled down (we thought), and four months after the wedding (in 1968), he received his draft notice. We thought it was awful...our lives were disrupted. We were both 25 years old. I had to move again (the 4th time in a year) when he went to boot camp. The funny thing about it is that he ended up making the military a career as an officer, for 26 years. He was never in a combat role. I didn't agree with him making it a career, but it wasn't up to me. Looking back, it was an interesting life. We got to live in Europe and some interesting places. Certainly not boring. lol
