[quote:Fancypantz:MV8zMjM4NDkyXzY5OTI3OTA0X0ZBOTk5MzVE] https://www.livescience.com/63181-mummies-poison-clothing.html The hazardous red powder was first detected when the mummies were discovered in the 1970s. But although cinnabar's signature color had been previously associated with Inca culture elsewhere, it had never been seen in a cultural context in the region where the mummies were found, archaeologists reported in a new study. Previous research suggested that cinnabar was ceremonially used among Inca people of high social status, and its presence in the mummies' clothing hints that the ritual that claimed their lives was culturally significant, according to the study. In fact, it's possible that the Incas were well aware of the dangers posed by cinnabar inhalation, and they may have deliberately scattered cinnabar on their ceremonial burial sites to deter grave robbers, the scientists said.
Duat (pronounced "do-aht") (also Tuat and Tuaut or Akert, Amenthes, Amenti, or Neter-khertet) was the realm of the dead in ancient Egyptian mythology. It was the realm of the deity Osiris and the residence of other gods and supernatural beings. The Duat was the region through which the sun god Ra traveled from west to east during the night, and where he battled Apep. It was also the place where people's souls went after death for judgement, though that was not the full extent of the afterlife.[1] Burial chambers formed touching-points between the mundane world and the Duat, and spirits could use tombs to travel back and forth from the Duat.
