Original Message A public worker caught smoking weed while on duty was punished too harshly and should be given his job back, a court ruled.

Gregory Linhoff was fired from his job at the University of Connecticut Health Center when he was caught enjoying a spliff in his state-owned vehicle by a police officer.

He was arrested, but charges were later dropped.

His employers said they had no choice but to sack him, as it would send a bad message to colleagues if he was allowed to remain.

But the state Supreme Court disagreed, and said Linhoff’s exemplary disciplinary record meant he should be given a second chance
