Original Message I already have an AR. I like the platform a lot but it's not my favorite. I'm accustomed to deer rifles (.270 and .300 Win Mag are favorite chambering choices of mine). I like how they point and how they naturally meet your cheek when you shoulder them.

I've been looking at Ruger Mini 14s for a while. They have the same action as an M1A (rotating bolt) which I like a lot. The price is just over $700 for a new one with a nice wood stock. That's a good price for Ruger quality if you ask me.

If I ever wanted to go the "tacti-cool" route with it (not likely), there are replacement stocks available. 30 round mags are available from Ruger (they're $25 which is pretty high).

Anybody got one of these? I'd like to hear your take on them. I've never shot one.
