Actually, yes. It was the paratrooper model with folding stock and 30 round mag that was featured on the show. A badass rifle for a badass TV show.
awesome! I am no expert but from what I have gathered the Mini might have a longer life span as far as the internals and the way the gun operates, where as an AR will need replacement parts if your thinking long term and tens of thousands of rounds shot through it. Think the bolt, bolt carrier group ect. The AR is usually more accurate and the thicker barrel design allows for more rapid fire shots fired through it at a time, which might be useful in a fire fight. If you get the Mini get the new one with a thicker barrel. IF I could only have one I would go AR with extra bolts, parts, .22 conversion kits, and buy more ammo.
I already have an AR. I like the platform a lot but it's not my favorite. I'm accustomed to deer rifles (.270 and .300 Win Mag are favorite chambering choices of mine). I like how they point and how they naturally meet your cheek when you shoulder them.
I've been looking at Ruger Mini 14s for a while. They have the same action as an M1A (rotating bolt) which I like a lot. The price is just over $700 for a new one with a nice wood stock. That's a good price for Ruger quality if you ask me.
If I ever wanted to go the "tacti-cool" route with it (not likely), there are replacement stocks available. 30 round mags are available from Ruger (they're $25 which is pretty high).
Anybody got one of these? I'd like to hear your take on them. I've never shot one.
