It is typical to have 20 - 40 mile an hour sustained winds during a hot, dry day here on the northern NM-AZ line. However, the nights are usually quiet, and during rainy times it is quiet.
Last night we had cloudy skies, lightening and thunder, very slight rain, and no wind. Then, at about 3 AM my husband and I heard something like a train approaching and sat up in our bed in alarm.
It was wind! It hit us like a tornado and passed on - lasting at this location for about 2 minutes. Then, all was silent again except for distant lightening.
This happened 4 or 5 times between 3 and 5 AM. "It" tore the roof off of our pro panel green house (50 mph sustained winds have not yet done this) and picked up various objects and rolled or threw them. It was quite dark so we couldn't see what "it" looked like.
The silence between blasts was completely still and calm - like weather right before a tornado.
Anyway - this has never happened before. My husband grew up here - and I've been here for 17 years.
Anyone else experiencing strange weather?
