[quote:Anonymous Coward 72072201:MV8zNTMxODI0XzYzMDk1NzgyX0I4QkFEOTA2] Thanks for asking your question here and I apologize for the sarcastic comments some people make, but here are my ideas, too. One of the best set-ups I've come across was this guy in the military. He went into the engineers.... I know he was building housing so he learned construction, plumbing, electrical... everything while getting paid. In addition other soldiers would call him up and he'd get extra $$ by using those skills to do repair/installation , etc. at those locations... THEN, when he discharged, he already had a customer base and went into business doing those things and is making a ton of money now. I have 7 years of college and it isn't for everyone, also, my parents could pay and I don't know how these young people today can pay off those loans.... and there should be no shame in not going to college. Technical school.... Some might be rip-offs but here in Texas, in Waco, there is TSTI Texas State Technical Institute.... I know of a number of guys who went there and are doing well now. I like the other person's idea about learning and using code... that's always in demand. Internships... he should be able to find one since he's right out of h.s. Does he have any interests/hobbies? Those are good directions to start. Maybe see a career counselor... I saw one which used the What Color is your Parachute book and, wow, what I really enjoy doing the most has NOTHING to do with a college degree, lol. Maybe a mentor... someone who will take them under their wing... but he has to search those out. "Create" a job... see where a business is not optimal, write a proposal and see if the company will give him a chance and if it goes well, hell often can get hired. SALESMAN - wow, you can make big big $$$ if you can do that well. For now, for summer, even mowing lawns.... keep him busy, make some cash, and will show initiative to employers. Oh, if no employment there, move to somewhere there is if that is a possibility. I hope I helped even just a little. IMO no matter what he needs to keep busy.... an idle mind.... [/quote]
