We gotta stop this!!!
Actually, no, we need to let them in. The shirtless, leather jacket-wearing, long-haired dude made a video about this topic, and he is a die-hardTrump supporter. Very smart guy who makes excellent points on this subject. Puerto Rican citizens are ALEADY US citizens. They are an American territory, and can move to the mainland whenever they like. If conservatives get all pissy and turn them down on statehood, then down the line when they do get statehood, and they eventually will, they will harbor resentment against conservatives. Better to have Trump offer the bridge to full statehood, so conservatives can begin to woo them now. Likewise, Guam should be granted statehood. It is comprised almost entirely of US military and their families. This can act as a counterbalance assurance of conservatism in new statehood. Also consider the Cubans in Miami. Ev Rooney thought for sure they would collectively vote liberal. But they did not this last election cycle. Plus, you have to consider the fact that individual states shift with each cycle. Maine is almost a swing state now. And when Alaska was admitted, they thought for sure that they would always vote screamingly liberal. Now it is probably the reddest state in the US. Demographics change, and by opening up PR, theirs will also reflect this.
Puerto Rico’s government is banking on a push for statehood to solve the structural issues that led to its financial crisis.
Puerto Ricans will vote Sunday to decide the territory’s status. If statehood wins, as expected, the island will enact what’s known as the Tennessee Plan, an avenue to accession by which U.S. territories send a congressional delegation to demand to be seated in Washington.Puerto Rico will send two senators and five representatives, chosen by Gov. Ricardo Rosselló (D), later this year, once the plan is put into action.
