[quote:jake:MV8zNjEyNjA1XzY0NDgzNjYzXzU4NzY3MjY=] Steven Burket · U.S. Navy I spent 12.5 years in the navy as an Operations Specialist, 7 years spent as a Track Sup, 3 of those years as a Watch Sup as well, what I can't fathom is how the hell this happens. You've got a surface radar guy, you've got a spa-25g guy, you've got the track sup, the watch officer, and tao in combat. Not to mention port/starboard/aft lookouts, then the bridge radar people. The only time we've ever really had some semblance of trouble tracking is during low visibility. There should be no reason this happens 3 times in that short amount of time. While I'm not one to jump to conclusions there is something definitely wrong with the situation of 3 ships have incidents like this. [/quote]
From that pic you can tell the McCain was dead in the water. There is no shear damage from a ship under power. It was a direct hit ! The McCain would have been under full power to get out of the way of a ship that was 4 times it's size. It was also full daylight as far as I know. No shear no power. Look at where the "V" shaped part of the haul hit the war ship. Not one inch of shear.
