There is no shear damage from a ship under power. It was a direct hit ! The McCain would have been under full power to get out of the way of a ship that was 4 times it's size. It was also full daylight as far as I know. No shear no power. Look at where the "V" shaped part of the haul hit the war ship. Not one inch of shear. Look at the photo: https://twitter.com/DavidLarter/status/899571137717444608
Watch the radar equipment starts at 3.43 any ship or plan or u-boat would be detected https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2t4rYHKhoc
I dont' know why we are even discussing military radars and secret navy stuff. I've been at sea for last 30 years, crossed Singapore straits many times, there is always visual watch on both bridge wings, any ship getting too close to your vessel is contacted at once on radio, any strange manouver is reported to Singapore Traffic, and so on...To hit a Navy ship from the side , by an oil tanker moving at 10-12 knots , that is extremely hard to imagine. Investigation would show very clear by both ship bridge data recorders, what has actually happened( ship course, speed,etc)-except if it is too embarrassing for US Navy in this case.
