It was difficult to drive for several reasons, the highway had flooded, there was sideways rain, vehicle shaking because of strong winds, and traffic caused by storm. There were cars trying to stop on the side of the road, the problem was there were too many vehicles and just plain confusion, some vehicles on the shoulder lane were stopped completely and others that had stopped were trying to move away this with poor visibility and freaking stopped big rigs on the main highway blocking some vehicles that wanted to get away, all this while a tornado was on the side of the field.
I've been through exactly what you are describing more than once! I have a theory that there is some phenomena that causes part of an Okies brain to shut down while driving in bad weather. (Okay, just kidding) I have experienced this though and it was frightening. The weather can turn extreme here in a matter of minutes and those people that do not have experience in dealing with it can quickly become a bigger danger than the actual weather. There is also the fact that most of our roads do not have shoulders meant to be parked on. Often there is no way to safely pull to the side yet people still attempt to do it causing problems. This is especially true in the case of big rigs. They have a tendency to get stuck then block traffic when trying to get back on the road.
Not many details yet. There is structural damage. Being a Saturday night you can be sure that the place was packed.
