North Korea sent Kim Jong Un’s sister, Kim Yo Jong, to the Olympic Opening Ceremonies in South Korea to serve as the country’s leadership representative. Vice President Mike Pence, who also attended the ceremonies, was seated in front of Kim Yo Jong (shown above) in the stands, and he had an epic response to her presence.
Pence, who knew ahead of time that Jong would be there, threw some serious shade her way, refusing to acknowledge her presence, even as he greeted and interacted with other world leaders in the VIP section where they sat. Even though Jong sat behind Pence and his wife Karen, just a few feet away, Pence never turned to make eye contact or greet her.
Jong and her family live a luxurious life in North Korea, as its citizens live in extreme poverty. Many starve to death because of the lack of food. Many others, including some in Jong’s immediate family, have been executed by her brother.
Pence is also likely thinking of Otto Warmbier, the American student jailed by North Korea and mistreated so badly that he died shortly after being released.
