Original Message A couple of the facts:

In 1880, the % of population requiring psychiatric help was at .7%

In 2005, the % of population requiring psychiatric help was at 21%. (crazy increase, so to speak)

In 2010, there were ONLY 14 psychiatric beds available for every 10,000 patients. This is because institutions have been shutting down at a rapid rate, forcing patients who require immediate attention to basically fend for themselves or have to face correctional facilities.

Many seriously ill patients even have to visit emergency rooms just to get proper help. These are people who KNOW they have a problem, are looking for help and basically aren't supplied many options.

For every other type of illness, there is NO shortage of beds, no shortage of room for customers and no shortage of medication.

Could this be causing or aiding in the creation of a mental health crisis?
