You can have a society that is multi-cultural without being diverse.
The nature of the word speaks to division of our great REPUBLIC to make us weaker.
We can be a strong unit from different backgrounds; hell that's what we are founded upon.
And while I'm at it....
America is a REPUBLIC for the people, by the people. Its not a democracy. In fact its not even close. So please correct anyone who uses the improper terminology to describe our GREAT UNITED REPUBLIC.
