[quote:Mama Outlaw:MV8zODUxOTE4XzcwMDMyOTY3XzZBNUZFNDRD] [quote:Mr.Fox:MV8zODUxOTE4XzcwMDIyNzg1XzJEMkNBQzU0] ...I you come into a house and the owner is holding a weapon to defend his or her home, isn’t that alarming enough and a sign to GTFO?
No. No. No. No. No. If you enter any place, and there is a person with a gun, you have to size that person up VERY FAST. You probably have to move forward and take the gun away from them. This is the default. You may have to use your own to shoot them in the head before they shoot you. You can't run from a gun. You could get shot in the back. You can back out slowly, but you are taking your chances. Irs never a good idea to alarm someone intentionally. Alarmed people behave erratically. They always escalate. You assume they will freeze and flee. Some will fight. It is not unheard of for an unarmed person to attack someone pointing a gun at them and win. When you make a person fear for his life you have activated his energy reserves to fight for his life. He won't be able to turn it off just because he has taken your gun and knocked you down. He won't finish until he's worn down in some cases. You really can't know who your intruder is or how he will react to a gun. Guns don't make you safer any more than kitchen appliances make you well nourished or the right vacuum keeps your house clean.
Crawford County Sheriff Ron Brown said the owner of a home in the 2700 block of Clear Creek Road east of Van Buren was awakened about 3 a.m. Wednesday by a home alarm that signaled a break-in in his detached garage. Grabbing a shotgun loaded with birdshot, the homeowner went to investigate.
When he entered the garage he was confronted by the intruder, Brown said. They fought and the intruder began to run away. The homeowner told deputies it appeared the intruder was heading for the front door of the home and he feared he would go inside. Brown said the homeowner fired a warning shot in the air for the man to stop, then fired one shot at the intruder.
Byrns, who was wounded in the side of the head by birdshot pellets, ran down the road to a vehicle parked about one-eighth of a mile away, authorities said. A woman companion was waiting for him, Brown said.
