Scientists have not fully worked out the relationship between marijuana and psychosis

People predisposed to schizophrenia are more likely to use marijuana

The more often a predisposed person uses marijuana and the younger they re when they start, the greater the risks are that they develop schizophrnia

Johns Hopkins University researchers discovered that the interaction between THC and a gene triggers brain inflammation in 'teenage' mice

That inflammation may be responsible for cognitive and memory problems

An anti-inflammatory protected against the effects of THC
If the same is true in humans, we may someday be able to reduce the risks that marijuana exposure as teens creates for those predisposed to schizophrenia

Marijuana may cause brain inflammation that sets off a genetic time-bomb for schizophrenia in predisposed teenagers - but an anti-inflammatory drug might block the harmful effects a new study suggests.
