[quote:Pooka:MV8zOTYyNTk1XzcyMzU2ODQzXzdEODg5QzE5] [quote:Mental Case:MV8zOTYyNTk1XzcyMzU2Mjk2X0I1REI5MzBE] Cell towers have electronic equipment that could be damaged, and also require power which may not be available after such an event. ----------- You also have to have power to the computers at the phone company. When somebody dials my number...those computers route the call to my phone & my phone rings. If those computers are down...calls ain't gonna be connected.
This is why I say I am looking at communications in VZ - I choose hope that we may sometimes be able to make phone calls. A few pages back, I made a request of people here - particularly those who have some knowledge in communications and electronics. Nobody responded. I will try again. Will people here who have more knowledge than most of us, in comnunications and electronics, please find a way for the core group of us, which means anybody dedicated here and more who may come, to keep in touch after SHTF. I believe it would take some sort of relay, so we would have to have geographic designators and a schedule of relays. I know this is do-able. We just need people here with the right expertise. I wish this to happen for multiple reasons. Let's just start with the ability to encourage each other. That alone is crucial. There are more reasons.
Continuation of another thread of wonderful people with the best ever ideas for practical prepping even for those with little money.
We discuss power outages including CME and EMP, heating and cooking methods, first aid, foods; we run disaster scenarios to see if we know what to do.
This is probably the only prepping thread a person would need, whether long-time prepper here to share, or newbie prepper here to learn and everyone in between.
