[quote:Anonymous Coward 75470432:MV8zOTYyNTk1Xzc2MjMzNTI0XzNBRTNDRjRC] [quote:darth:MV8zOTYyNTk1Xzc2MjA2NzcxXzQ0MDQ5MTBE] A lot of cultures actually kept livestock on the first floor or in the basement of dwellings because it helped heat the place. Also more secure from thieves. Ref veggies, I have seen turnips growing even after it snowed a few times here in Texas. When I lived in Germany the Summer temps hovered around 50-60F with a lot of rain. Sunny days were rare. But they grew potatoes, turnips, rutabagas, beets, cabbages, etc. without a problem. Root veggies provide a LOT of calories/acre too. Ref saving info after EMP, I recommend: 1. Books and written notes from videos you have watched online. 2. M disc storage. Like a CD but supposedly good for 1000 years. Keep an old computer in the EMP-proof metal trash can wrapped in cardboard and aluminum foil. Will need solar or generator to access your files. When I upgrade computers I don't throw away my old ones. They are stored in a metal drum in the barn. BTW, one of my old ideas for emergency TP: I sign up for catalogs and trade magazines which I throw into another steel drum in the barn. US Snail delivers. Can also use for fire starters or keeping the wood stove stoked. I once knew a guy who lived in a cabin in New Brunswick out in the bush. He reviewed a few books and got the reviews published. He got so many free books from publishers after that, he heated his cabin with them.
Oh i hadn't thought about it, but it makes sense about them providing heat. Joel stalin @ polyface farms uses a similar concept that heats his cow barns in the winter time from the breakdown of manure and hay. I am so glad that I love cabbage, beets and potatoes, at least...not so sure on the others. Love your ideas and will be implementing them. But the burning books would be left for a true EOTWAWKI- SHTF- iam going to die if i don't situation :hf: @Pooka, I hope you are feeling less pain. :hf: In IAF latest video he said that we have to implement growing without electrical...or something like that... He did give some resources to check out. concerning building the soil He mentioned Chris Trump, which has a 750acre farm in Hawaii that uses KNF (Korea natural farming) Chris's Youtube videos gives a good overview of it. There is also JADAM which might be easier to implement, not sure, still researching it. This website https://www.unconventionalfarmsupply.com/unconventional-farmer-links would probably be good to back up, because the original content creator has abandon the internet, it seem, but someone else has tried to keep the information available to the public. From the website "This page is dedicated to www.theunconventionalfarmer.com which is currently no longer online since 2017. I cannot take any credit beyond collecting and reposting information as a way to insure that this important knowledge is not lost to the ethers. This information was given away freely on the website and I wanted to insure this resource to stay in the public consciousness. - Clay"
Continuation of another thread of wonderful people with the best ever ideas for practical prepping even for those with little money.
We discuss power outages including CME and EMP, heating and cooking methods, first aid, foods; we run disaster scenarios to see if we know what to do.
This is probably the only prepping thread a person would need, whether long-time prepper here to share, or newbie prepper here to learn and everyone in between.
