[quote:Pooka:MV8zOTYyNTk1XzcxNjQ0OTgyXzUxQjRFM0Ex] [quote:Mother May I:MV8zOTYyNTk1XzcxNjQ0ODA0XzcxQ0NBNkFC] Just found this! Wanted to mention a couple things. 8 drops of bleach purifies a gallon of water. Let dirty water settle, strain out the "chunks" and pour into a clean container. Add 8 drops of plain ole Clorox bleach. let sit a half hr. Also, keep an eye open for natural "edibles" in your area, yard or neighborhood. Every single variety of the Hosta plant is edible-leaves, shoots, flowers etc. I have a lot of the green and white striped ones in my yard. All edible. Also those orange daylilies that grow wild-edible flowers and tuber roots. Roots are like potatoes. roast or fry in oil. Remember, you don't need much meat to flavor veggies. You would be surprisedat what can be foraged. I had to research post apocalyptic survival stuff, and found out all this. I went out and dug up hostas and daylilly roots just to try it out. LOL Not Bad!
Good ideas, my dear! If we buy pool shock we can make our own bleach for nearly nothing. It is very, very cheap - comes as a granulated powder. Bleach will only store for about six months before losing power. Pool shock stays in the powder form until you mix just a little with water. I use this as my laundry and cleaning bleach al the time. Bought one box from Home Depot one fall, and have given away several packages. Still have enough to last far longer than my lifetime, and it was under ten dollars. Only takes a teaspoon to make two gallons! I'm on the same packet of it that I originally opened about five years ago! And I use a lot!
Continuation of another thread of wonderful people with the best ever ideas for practical prepping even for those with little money.
We discuss power outages including CME and EMP, heating and cooking methods, first aid, foods; we run disaster scenarios to see if we know what to do.
This is probably the only prepping thread a person would need, whether long-time prepper here to share, or newbie prepper here to learn and everyone in between.
