President Trump says he plans to end birthright citizenship with an executive order

President Donald Trump said in an interview that he plans to sign an executive order ending "birthright citizenship" for the children of non-American citizens who are born on U.S. soil.

"It was always told to me that you needed a constitutional amendment. Guess what? You don't,"

"We're the only country in the world where a person comes in and has a baby, and the baby is essentially a citizen of the United States, with all of those benefits," Trump said.

The president said, "It's ridiculous. It's ridiculous. And it has to end." He said he has spoken with his legal advisers and that the move to issue the directive was "in the process."

"It will happen, with an executive order," Trump said.
