I was told by the guy that runs one of the stolen valor websites that the government actually has NO database of who got medals or not. You would have to get a copy of their military records. So I have an acquaintance with a plethora of insane combat stories. Stolen valor at its finest. I know they’re completely full of crap...and I don’t even think they were in the military to begin with. For my own piece of mind, I’d like to know that my gut feeling is accurate.
Anyone know how I can go about verifying that said individual was never in the military...without hiring a private investigator or paying an assload of money for a background check?
