Remember the arguments about Ted Cruz being eligible to run for president? I was of the opinion that Cruz was NOT eligible and Keanu Reeves' own citizenship situation mirrors Cruz's:

Semi interesting factoid - my step sister was married to Keanu's father, Sam Reeves. She never met Keanu because he had nothing to do with with heroin dealing father. My step sister died of a heroin OD in Hawaii while Sam was prison for dealing.

Part of Cruz's problem is that evidence was found that his mother renounced her US citizenship in Canada before he was born.  She's on the Canadian voter rolls.  Back then, someone wanting to vote in Canada couldn't hold duel citizenship.

Cruz also has a Canadian birth certificate.  There wasn't an option for duel citizenship for Americans born there.  It's my understanding that they still could have chosen a US BC for little Cruz, but they didn't.  At that time, the choice had to be one or the other - not both.
