Plus there are many 1 year courses that will keep you out of those loser minimum wage jobs. Unemployment offices will know of tons of training programs and vocational rehab. You have lots of options for bettering your employment situation. There’s always Walmart and McDonald’s not the greatest but still better than no job. Good luck!
AC, please keep in mind that Miggy is pushing 60 years old. And that many jobs which are suitable for 30 - 40 year old people become more and more physically challenging as a person gets older. Could YOU be 60 and work at McDonalds? Survive a 48-hour week on your feet at a factory? Or a hospital-type job which involves picking up and turning patients over in their beds? Not chastising, perhaps you didn't realize Miggy's age. Or you're very young and have lots of strength and stamina and have not been smacked around by Life yet. For a reality check: Today, right now, at this very moment, you have the MOST energy, the MOST stamina, the MOST intellectual acumen, the MOST friends and relatives who are willing/able to help you, and the MOST chance of opportunity knocking that you will have for the rest of your LIFE. And from this moment on, all of those "mosts" will begin to shrink, imperceptibly at first but more noticeably as you get older. Not complaining, or trying to be a downer, that's just how it is. :hf:
I am pushing 60 myself born the same year as Miggy. Retirement homes are looking for people exactly like her. People that are mature, settled, caring. Finding dependable help is not easy in today’s world. But believe me there are tons of jobs for people our age. When was the last time you went to a Casey’s, McDonald’s, Walmart etc it’s all people our age. We are the most hired demographic there is. I imagine Oklahoma is a lot like Iowa. CNA training, is only a year or less. Home health is a great way to make a living. Honestly aside from being disabled there’s no reason she shouldn’t be able to find a job with in a few days. I was forced to resign from a full-time job I've had the past 3 years last month after an illness (pneumonia) and excessive absenteeism due to the illness and a family member's death.
I am currently waiting for my unemployment claim to be approved while I continue job hunting every day.
Today is the last day for me to pay rent plus late charges or I am going to be evicted. I've been living paycheck to paycheck these past 3 year so I have no money saved up for such an event as this.
Does anyone know if the judges who handle these cases are sympathetic to the length of time it takes for unemployment to be approved?
I don't plan on sneaking out and not paying- in fact, I don't have anywhere to go if I did.
I've never been in this position before and was wondering if anyone has any answers?
Prayers of encouragement would be very much appreciated.
Miggy
PS. If I had anything of value I would sell it but I own very little belongings and they're not really worth anything.
