[quote:Anonymous Coward 74139312:MV80MDg0OTA0Xzc0MDQ2MTIwXzE0NUU0MkYz] A bunch of idiots here that know nothing about the aviation industry. Shit happens, it's about how the emergency is handled and the training of the flight crews. Flying is safe because it is drilled over and over again how to respond to emergencies. When shit goes wrong pilots are trained to respond in the best way possible. How many people have died on a commercial flight in the US in the last 5 years? I believe it's like 1 or 2. There was the lady on that SW flight and maybe 1 other. There hasn't been a major crash killing all on board in the US for over a decade. The last was Colgan air in NY I believe, and that resulted in a lot of changes in the industry. You people crying about how unsafe flying is have no clue what you're talking about. [/quote]

Dramatic video footage taken by a passenger on board a Baltimore-bound flight Monday showed a loose spinner rattling in one of the engines before the plane was forced into an emergency landing.
Delta's Flight 1425 – a 32-year-old MD-88 – left Hartsfield-Jackson International Baltimore-Washington International around 12:48 Monday. About an hour into the flight, passengers said they heard a loud boom followed by smoke billowing into the cabin.

And this is why I refuse to fly. Security garbage aside, these plans are old, not very well maintained and literally falling apart.
