"The job starts at $12 an hour, which is decent pay for the area, Whitley said. “That’s not bad to start, and it can always go up"
Here's the problem - "Americans" expect $12 an hour for a low-skill job -- and probably expect "health benefits" too and they would probably complain about "bad working conditions" or "the animals are suffering " then they wonder why a company would hire "illegals"
It's not so much that companies hire illegals, it's that they use Staffing Agencies who send laborers of all creeds to do the low skill job because the company would rather pay $15/hr to the Agency so that they can pay the Temp $10/hr instead of hiring the laborer at $13/hr+benefits & 401K. Who comes rolling through that door from the Temp Service is a roll of the dice that companies are seemingly willing to undertake just so that their "bottom line" can be bigger at the end of the year by not paying out the benefits, which are costly. So, even if the Hispanics' papers were good, they'd still be kept at arms length by being kept on-board through the Agency. Unfortunately, Hispanics take the brunt of being taken advantage of in the US because the market to pay them is lower than what they pay other ethnicities to do the same job. Most Hispanics, except for the drunks, figure the $10/hr is a come-up for them, so they do excellent work and are loyal. If only they'd gotten their paperwork in order instead of getting comfortable.... :sockpuppet:
