After a gunman warning of an “Hispanic invasion” killed more than 20 people in Texas, Cory Booker spoke at the South Carolina church where a white supremacist murdered nine black worshippers in 2015.

The 2020 Democratic presidential candidate also called for a new White House Office on Hate Crimes and White Supremacist Violence, improved reporting of hate crimes and white supremacist threats, and regular reports to Congress and the public on such threats.

In making his proposals, Booker quoted the late civil rights leader Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
