The drill concluded two days ago....why the drill?
What would happen if there was a nuclear attack against the Ambassador Bridge?
That was the nightmare scenario a broad array of emergency responders gathered in Detroit this week to plan and prepare for.
“You pose a problem, ‘Okay, there’s been a nuclear detonation in Detroit,’ and then the injects are introduced to stress the participants and to also get them thinking about how they need to coordinate their efforts,” said Lt.-Col. Charles Calio, public affairs officer for the Michigan Army National Guard’s 46th Military Police Command, charged with the responsibility for a U.S. Army chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear response element.
A three-day Dense Urban Terrain Exercise brought military units from both Canada and the United States and around 60 agencies, including the FBI, Department of Homeland Security and local first responders, to Detroit and Dearborn for the joint training exercise that concluded Thursday.
