The Pentagon said U.S. troops in Syria came under Turkish artillery fire on Friday, in an area where Turkey knows U.S. troops are present.
Navy Capt. Brook DeWalt, a Pentagon spokesman, said the artillery explosion came within a few hundred meters of the area where U.S. forces were.
DeWalt added no American troops were injured and U.S. forces have not withdrawn from the Kurdish-held town of Kobani, adding that Turkey must avoid actions that could result in immediate defensive action by the U.S.
