The Shah of Iran was the last MOnarch in 2500 year old Dynasty.
the Ayatollah Komeini was part of a SECULAR and 'religious' uprising, backed by the United States.
of course, mercenaries often turn on their benefactors and employers once in power, that is a fairly common situation.
the Iranian hostage situation was the turning point where they knew their pets had turned on them.
it's just my own theory, conjecture from what I've read. it's probably a million times more complicated, and i'm probably wrong, but.
Islam is a relatively recent thing in the past 2500 years of Iranian history, the royal Monarchy was NOT Islamic
