YOU ARE THE EXACT PROBLEM. That's why people who rent can't afford living local anymore. That's why rent has been skyrocketing. That's why local apartment complexes in major cities are empty because you WANT $1,000/week not $1,000/month. You have taken advance of a broken system and I blame AirBnb promoting investors to mortgage additional real estate to do that. You 'purchased' real estate under the assumption of 'owner' but yet the banks OWN it and you are a debtor. I like expensive pretty things too but I don't buy things I can't afford or pay in full. You're a debtor taking advantage of debtors. Let that sink in.
You done? Sheesh. I didnt PURCHASE anything. What I do is save people money on short term travel. How in the hell is that milking the system? or affecting the rent in local apartments? Siiiigh
You are using AirBnB as it was intended....I'm totally for owner occupied AirBnBs.....the problem are the A-holes like my neighbor in my post....they are buying up property solely for AirBnB use.....in effect they are changing the zoning of a residential neighborhood to commercial.... Every day I see the luggage brigade in the area...they leave trash all over and I get them ringing my doorbell mistakenly in the middle of the night..... People that paid top dollar buying a condo apartment in a nice building find they are living in a hotel suddenly... too much abuse is why the blowback is happening....
We have a very large house and it's just me and my husband, so we recently began listing 2 additional bedrooms and bathrooms on AirBnB. Bookings came in right away and we were averaging about $1000 a week extra income just for letting out rooms that never get used anyway, and we met some mighty fine people along the way. It's been a very good experience!
Now, nothing. I had one inquiry from a fellow in New York this morning I had to turn down because of the high outbreak of Covid-19. New York is just not a good place to accept a guest from right now. So I blocked off my calendars until the middle of April
