[quote:joeym:MV80Mzc4OTI1Xzc5NzE2MjIzXzUxREVDNjkz] [quote:Anonymous Coward 78090287:MV80Mzc4OTI1Xzc5NzE1NjE2XzFGMjU2NkVE] My DIL has recently been finally diagnosed with Hashimoto's. Damn doctor told her when initial dose was not effective (25mg., nothing much) "You know it's like speed, don't you?" What utter BS. The war on drugs causes lots of suffering. No sleep, no sudafed for sinus, no muscle relaxers for strained backs or pain meds for broken legs. No thyroid meds now.
I have Hashimoto's disease and I take 75mcg of Levothyroxine daily. I guess if worse comes to worst, I can go to Mexico to get thyroid meds. (We live only a few hours from the border). I agree with the statement that the "War on Drugs" has been waged at the expense of people who legitimately need pain medication, muscle relaxers, Sudafed, etc. Many doctors, because of the Opioid Act, require drug tests for THC before they will prescribe any psychiatric drugs. In our state, medical marijuana is legal. I left my psychiatrist who treats me for panic disorder/PTSD because of the stupid mandatory THC tests. Fortunately, not all doctors interpret the law so strictly. Sorry, I got on a rant.
Question for the scientists/doctors out there.
Any advice on what we people that don't have thyroids (or malfunctioning ones) do if we run out of levothyroxine (supply chain issues).
I've searched & searched online to no avail for natural substitutes, i.e. pig hormones (still need a prescription) etc. and can't find anything I can stockpile.
My doctor will will not let me get an extra prescription to set aside in case of emergency which I think is BS considering I'm stable with my daily dose (I'm not the local drug dealer, but maybe I should make friends with one huh?).
Biology isn't my strong point, are there any knowledgeable people online that could advise anon.?
In a hypothetical life/death situation (before falling into coma from lack of hormones) are there any natural (beside pig hormones) substitutes? Or any other animal thyroid glands that could be used to produce something that would at least keep you alive for awhile.
Any help appreciated, and thanks for all replies.
