I have discussed this question with several people claiming the earth's axis has tilted several degrees. No one can refute my claim, so...
The earth has a series of geostationary satellites in orbit around the equator. The speed of the satellites match the rotational speed of the earth so they appear to remain in the same place/plane in the sky.
If the axis of the earth has tilted, would not these satellites now be out of alignment EXCEPT at two points along the equator? In other words, with an axis tilt the new orbit of the satellites would place half of them above the new equator and the other half below the equator. Since there has been no such dislocation of the geostationary satellites (all are still in communication) this would prove there has been NO axis shift of the earth. And NO, an axis tilt would not "drag" the satellites into the new orbital plane.
Would any of you pushing "the earth's axis has shifted" please let me know where I've gone wrong here?
