[quote:nutmeg:MV80NzQxNjUyXzg2Mzg0OTMwXzY4MjE4RkI=] [quote:Inchworm Jim:MV80NzQxNjUyXzg2MzgzNDMyXzdEODNEMjNE] [quote:nutmeg:MV80NzQxNjUyXzg2MzgzMjY0X0VEMUFGRkZG] Years ago, when I had kids living in the house, I didn't necessarily keep my doors locked during the day unless I left the house in the car. One day, I was sitting in my house when someone rang the doorbell. I didn't feel like answering it. Another salesman? My kids were in school. All of a sudden, that someone tried to open the door. I could hear the door handle going back and forth. OMG! I froze! Thank goodness....that day the door was locked! I couldn't believe what I was hearing! I ran to the window only to see a 20-30ish black man walking away. I should have called the police, but I think I was in shock. From now on, my doors are ALWAYS locked!
That is insane and I'm glad you are safe, that can for sure be life changing and make your entire routine different. I used to live in more of a suburban area so another poster was right it could be paranoia. But we are also on the Netdoor App and even out here many people are saying keep your doors locked cars are getting stuff stolen out of them, lock your sheds lawnmowers and ATVs are getting stolen, close your windows when you leave and this is in a small community of just a few thousand people in a somewhat large area. Is it the same where you are?
I'm in a housing development. In a cul-de-sac; I usually feel very safe. I've lived here for many years, and have never heard of problems. I have wonderful neighbors, and we each mind our own business, but I know we still have to be careful for outsiders. And yes...my front door is always locked now. Years ago, when we had newspapers, I remember reading a warning in another community around 20 miles away.... The article said that theives were watching for families working in their yards. If they were working in the front yard, theives were entering the back door, and vice versa.
Wondering if anyone can give me some psychological insight on what is going on?
Moved out into the country around 1.5 years ago.
One of the "neighbors" who lives almost 1/2 mile away in a development came to introduce himself with his dog right after we moved in, s/o answered the door, said he was an electrician and if we needed anything done let him know etc. They exchanged pleasantries and moved on.
Fast forward to 2 months ago (over a year later) and I see a random guy with a dog come up onto my front porch and knock. It's around 12:30 mid-day and I didn't answer the door because I work from home and literally had a headset on talking to a customer. I realize it was that neighbor and I watch him walk up the road to his development, no note was left.
HERE IS WHERE IT GETS WEIRD:
I'm looking over the security camera from Friday of last week and he pops up on it. He parked his car across the street and walked over another neighbors property with his dog to my driveway. He goes to the front door, walks to the back door...then heads back over across the yard to his car and drives away.
NO KNOCK THIS TIME.
My danger sense is into overdrive from this but my s/o thinks I'm over reacting.
What are some of your thoughts GLP?
I have my phone charged and ready to record him on my property and confront him next time...but a part of me wants to see if he is going to break and enter.
Is he casing the place or what...?
