Combine that with most days temps in the high 90s or up to 113 at my place, and the extent of this disaster is clear. Most farms wont harvest enough wheat to pay for the seed and fuel costs. The good news is that the four prior years produced hefty yields and many farmers have significant wheat in storage. So there is some buffer if it comes to that.
I probably drove past you today. I was in Lewiston ID. Drove up to spokane area. It's those farmers I'm talking about. Weird thing is that they were saying beef would get cheaper. For some reason the price of beef is inversely proportional to wheat price. I can't wrap my head around that concept but okay.
I was in Lewiston today too...drove in from Grangeville
Spoke to some farmers that are harvesting right now. They say across the board that the wheat crop in the inland NW is absolutely horrible right now. They also told me that corn is bad as well.
Combine this with flooding in Asia, water issues in California, and we are in for a rough ride for global food production.
Not a good sign
Upside...per some of the comments below it looks like beef prices will fall drastically. Almost time to fill up those freezers.
