UH!!
From what I can gather they’re very different in that the Hawaiian islands sit on quite a weak or soft sea floor which deflects down as the island’s weight increases and the Canaries are sitting on a much stronger substrate so they’ll build height quicker, and ‘live’ longer but I wouldn’t say either are good if you’ve decided to settle humans on them, on a long enough time scale your going to have everything on the islands buried eventually.
After seeing the pictures of the sea bed surrounding La Palma, it is pretty obvious that the island was formed by volcanos and it seems logical (to me) that that the farther away from the source, the more densely packed the magma would be after centuries of spewing lava and millions of quakes ... there is no "drop off" for the tip of the island to "fall into" (causing a tsunami) if anything, it would just slide down the gentle slope that has formed over the centuries which is easy for me to say, because I don't live on a coast line ... but still I find tsunami scenario very difficult to believe - after looking at the sea bed
Cumbre Vieja volcano or Cumbre Vieja volcanic ridge is area on La Palma Island (Canary Islands) .Potential eq swarm and eruption could trigger landslide causing widespread tsunami on Atlantic Ocean!
Update 16 th September
Deformation up to 10 cm is reported .Quakes are increasing in size and amount again.Looks like harmonic tremor is happening!
Update late 17 th September Polish Time
We are in phase of low frequency microtremors/microquakes like yesterday
Update:
People felt the eruption coming
Neighbors of La Palma "felt a noise for days". Luis Alberto Rodríguez García is Head of Engineering Operations at the Gran Telescopio Canario, in the Roque de los Muchachos de La Palma. He tells us that for days he had sounded like a vibration in his ear. And what has happened to more people. Today he is at home watching the lava run down the hillside and across the roads.
