This thing is NOT slowing down...it's getting worse.
Yes I see it....just like that secondary opened yesterday and ate the main vent overnight....it's seeping even lower now. Eesh. Thinking on it, if the main was open and punched a hole through, then the secondary opened at a lower area...and now a third is chewing at the bottom of that...is this entire chunk one giant gaping hole under the cone debris from all the melt/harmonics? How wide, from top vent to bottom, would that even be? I'm picturing a crater the size of the old northern cone opening up.
In this particular instance more vents are actually a good thing. The more vents we have the more gas and steam pressure are released vertically up and out of the wolcano, significantly reducing the probability of steam subduction under the western flank fault. In other words, less steam pressure equals less chance the slippage will happen, equals less chance of a cataclysmic meg-tsunami.
I don’t think we need the steam … The constant vibrations and one good pop…. That sucker is SLIDING.
Cumbre Vieja volcano or Cumbre Vieja volcanic ridge is area on La Palma Island (Canary Islands) .Potential eq swarm and eruption could trigger landslide causing widespread tsunami on Atlantic Ocean!
Update 16 th September
Deformation up to 10 cm is reported .Quakes are increasing in size and amount again.Looks like harmonic tremor is happening!
Update late 17 th September Polish Time
We are in phase of low frequency microtremors/microquakes like yesterday
Update:
People felt the eruption coming
Neighbors of La Palma "felt a noise for days". Luis Alberto Rodríguez García is Head of Engineering Operations at the Gran Telescopio Canario, in the Roque de los Muchachos de La Palma. He tells us that for days he had sounded like a vibration in his ear. And what has happened to more people. Today he is at home watching the lava run down the hillside and across the roads.
