Original Message
The atrocities committed by the French (one of the Allies who fought in WW II against the Germans) during the War of Independence in Algeria were shocking. They had a cute name for a little machine for giving electric shocks to their victims: gégène (which is a cute name for Eugène).
Pierre Vidal-Naquet, a French historian, estimated that there were "hundreds of thousands of instances of torture" by the French military in Algeria.
You Americans who feel so much contempt for the people in the Middle East, remember how some of us westerners made ourselves so hated to many of them.
