[quote:Overgoverned:MV81MTQyMzY0Xzk0Mzk4NDg5Xzg1RjYyNTgz] This is an important question that deserves an honest answer. Zero chance we'll be given an honest answer, but we deserve one. I know of no 24 hour stores (aside from gas stations, and there aren't as many 24 hour gas stations as there were before the scam was uncorked) at present. They've lengthened their hours a bit, closing at 9:00, then 10:00, then 11:00, but none's back to 24/7/363. 24 hour operation became the fashion because someone else was doing it. There may have been a trace of public service involved with the first guy who tried it, but the primary motivation was greed. One more dollar is one more dollar in my pocket. But after someone pioneered the idea, the jealous competition couldn't bear to think that the pioneer was making his dollar (even if he wasn't really making a dollar). So it became the standard. Some stores may have realized that they weren't recovering their expenses, especially when you factor in shoplifting losses, but it's not easy to tell your customers that we're no longer going to be open 24 hours. That's what made the "crisis" an attractive excuse to change to profitable operating hours. I think it'd be nice if there were a 24 hour Homo Depot type store. One never knows when a plumbing problem is going to happen, and while I don't have a problem with turning the water off for a few hours, it will need to be fixed, eventually. May as well fix it now.
None of them around here have returned to being open 24 hours a day even though all covid restrictions are a distant memory. What gives? And it's not just Walmart... EVERYTHING that used to be open 24 hours a day or past midnight still closes early. Why can't we shop at night?
