[quote:SafeandSound:MV81MzA0MzEyXzk3Nzc0MDQ5XzQ0M0YxRjky] If it passes we go back to 1989. Go back to hiding our kids in basements and having escape routes from our backyards. Parents going to jail for keeping their children home, including nursing mothers locked up away from their children and dying of mastitis infection because their newborns can’t nurse. It all happened in our lifetime. , I’m absolutely ready to do whatever it takes to keep our rights so that my kids have the same ability to home educate that those who went through that in the 80s did for me. It’s in their honor that I have devoted so many thousands of hours a year for the last decade to this group. But I’m also going to do what I can to not let them walk right in and take away my rights this week in exchange for some nice lining of Reineke’s pockets. [/quote]

This measure now moves to the Ohio House of Representatives. We will send out an update as soon as it is assigned to a House Committee and when Committee hearings are scheduled. It will be QUICK because time in this session is running out.
In the meantime IMMEDIATE ACTION: It would be very helpful to contact your own State Representative. It is a quick call to ask for a NO vote when this comes to the House floor. As proponents are marketing this bill as the only way to fix our educational system, it is not. Sub SB 178 REMOVES elected representation for ALL students and parents in Ohio. This is especially a problem for home educated students and religious 08 non chartered schools.
There are House Republicans who will vote NO. Be encouraged that your calls and emails WILL make a difference. Four years ago this same legislation from the same proponents could not get enough support in the House. This is a busy time of year but this issue is critically important. Please consider making contact with your member and take an extra step to share this message with friends and family.
