Original Message 7 years, 2 months, 1 week and a few days ago along the Klamath River on the Yurok reservation in the middle of the night...

That week, there were 2 sightings and 2 hearings and 4 witnesses...

They only come out at night after everyone has gone to sleep...

One camper at the edge of the clearing right next to where the forest starts and a very short walk to the river...

A picnic table littered with leftovers from an old Indian grandma who had cooked up spaghetti the night before for her grandson in a red, ceramic coated cast iron dutch oven we donated to her.

Her helper, an old army green beret with a beard like Santa Claus, PTSD, living in a tent outside her camper, an old white guy, someone who tried to get his hands on some pot to put the past behind him and the trauma from Vietname, having been given orders to take out his old buddy who had gone over the edge and lost his mind...

Somewhere probably past midnight and before 2 AM or so...

A bigfoot appears from the forest and begins going through the items on the picnic table. The shadow of the beast, perhaps by moonlight hitting the tent. The old green beret froze like you do when you know your life might depend on it, or at least your body knows that and won't let you make a peep for fear of your life.

Then, training kicked in and he allowed himself to unfreeze and very slowly unzipped the tent so as not to make a sound and cautiously looked outside; the sound of the eating and the pots masking his mouselike peeking around to witness the very large, very hairy "the Boss of the Forest" as the natives referred to him (translated).

They locked eyes and he got his one good look perhaps for all time. Perhaps 7 feet tall or more and with the face of a man, but orange eyes like a wolf, nocturnal, with night vision, but feasting on carbs (spaghetti in tomato sauce in this case -- not a meat eating predator like the human) -- a distant cousin of sorts with a different kind of digestion acclimated for foraging in the forest for plants and berries...

The code of the Bigfoot, Sasquatch some call him; never to be spotted by man or risk bringing down man's destructive and predatory impulse to hunt, they are sworn the Natives say to never bring man to find them, to keep their existence a secret from us -- the white man, at least; they do not fear the natives who even tell stories of having openly traded goods with "the Boss of the Forest" before the white man arrived...With one simple step, the creature leaped up from down by the table to up in the forest upon a rock some 10 feet away and with the second step disappeared into the forest completely, perhaps only taking a second or two to accomplish what nobody in the NBA could do on a basketball court -- just rise, rise, pivot and launch away into nowhere.

That was the first sighting. And the story was worth the medicine we imparted to the penniless old man for his troubles the following day...
