Haz-Mat team cleans up teller lane after woman threatens staff

A woman claiming to have Morgellons, a skin disease, drove through the Wells Fargo motor bank downtown and threatened the tellers by rubbing the bank canister on her sores and sending it through the tube.

"A customer went through the drive-thru and threatened the bank staff to give them a contagious disease," said investigator David Valadez with the police department.

Police said the lady, who was not identified and has not been arrested, had threatened the bank before.

About 2 p.m. Tuesday, the woman threatened the tellers at the motor bank with her disease called Morgellons.

Police and the fire department blocked off about four lanes and the Alice Fire Department Haz-Mat team suited up and decontaminated the area, including the bank canister she apparently rubbed on her sores and the lane she used, police said.

According to the Internet, "Morgellons is an unexplained and debilitating condition that has emerged as a public health concern…Persons who suffer from this condition report a range of coetaneous symptoms including crawling, biting and stinging sensations; granules, threads or black speck-like materials on or beneath the skin; and/or skin lesions (e.g., rashes or sores) and some sufferers also report systemic manifestations such as fatigue, mental confusion, short term memory loss, joint pain and changes in vision."

The woman is facing criminal trespassing and charges of making terroristic threats.
