How the hell do you deal with this?

I made a purchase and I asked the salesperson how much it would be and I told him it was less than I expected. He replied well you can give me a $20 tip(which was 20%). He was completely serious.

Even though I knew I would never shop there again I still gave him the tip($10 instead of $20). If I gave him $20 It would have eaten at me a lot more than this.
