Original Message A puppy mill breeder is in it for the MONEY, not the dogs. They will usually have multiple breds, and many litters a year, often many litters at the same time.

A legitimate breeder is in it to imporve and continue the breed. They rarely have more than one litter in a year and usually it is one liter every two years. When they sell a dog as a pet, they require it be spayed or nuetered. The shots are up to date and you can alwways verify it. Another thing is that they will not sell a dog before it is 8 weeks old.

The dogs that come from puppy mills often end up in the pound or on the street or die of some genetic disease caused by bad breeding. Do not support puppy mills, if you see a dog at a petstore it is most likely from a puppy mill and the people at the flea market and on the highway selling dogs are not legitimate breeders.

PETA and HSUS have no care about this, they are more concerned with making money and getting insane animal laws passed.

If you want to support an organization that is really doing good for the animals, support your local rescue groups and your LOCAL SPCA.
