[quote:Anonymous Coward 785810:MV84OTQxODJfMTM4NDQ5OTNfQTU2RDQ5NDM=] [quote:czygyny] Why would you waste your time going to cemetery, er, seminary? Where do you think they all learn their error? If you haven't learned hebrew and greek, yet, do so...you don't need to learn their 'pre-digested' scripture and doctrine. Go to the Source.
Same reason you go to medical school to become a gynecologist. You need to actually have the credentials before you market your services as if you were credentialed. In the old days, it was common for Justices to not have gone to law school. In the 1600s when Harvard was started, medical school was a 1 year course on general anatomy. For whatever reason, and I'm no historian, now Justices, though no such requirement exists, typically need law degrees before becoming Justices. Practicing medicine without a license is illegal, as you well know, and becoming a minister without the appropriate qualifications brings into question my knowledge, my dedication, my background, my appropriate qualifications, and spiritual fitness for ministry. A seminary conferring upon a student a Divinity degree is a general sponsorship saying that person is now by education a minister and it also introduces the idea of church affiliation. For a minister to come along and start his own church, separate of all denomination, is really in my mind and, in light of different cult activity, in many peoples minds suspicious. For a minister to have been granted a degree by the seminary of that denomination is an official sponsorship of that minister. The student may not go on to work in that church, but it is always good to have the degree because there will be skeptics that challenge you on the basis of qualification, education, et cetera. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On the subject of learning falsehoods, it's an interesting theory, though it does not apply to me. Basically, I think a degree is not so much a report card, in the sense that it indicates passage of all tests and you have x amount of knowledge that fits in x sized cup. But rather it indicates that you have the prerequisite knowledge and skills to operate on a college level or graduate level. You can pass every test you take and not remember a question or answer on it a month later. But it still shows the ability to learn and process new information, on a college level. So no, they can teach whatever they want. I can still believe how I want as long as I put the answer they want on the test. I might not believe in the Holocaust, but for a cheesy example, if they say, "How many Jews were killed in the Holocaust?" I can fight it all I want but according to present day historians and people who have seen the record the answer is 6 million. And if I have to circle 6 million on the test, though I disagree with it and it's not accurate according to the evidence I have seen, by God I'll circle 6 million. Bad example, I know. But I think the point is clear.
I LOVE FREE SPEACH EVEN WHEN I DON'T AGREE WITH IT.
How many people have tried to go to a "CHRISTIAN" site and talk about the bible?
Should try it sometime, I was in a chat just now for all of 5 minutes.
I asked why no one was talking about the bible?
I quoted one passage, I was "told" that they didn't have to talk about the bible 24/7.
I said I was a guest and my first visit and this is how I am treated, and I was
EXPELLED.
Yes I LOVE everyone here, and I see now what most of you have seen.
I can assure you THEY ARE NOT CHRISTIAN.
And I have been treated better by people here. Even in disagreement, and cussing me, I felt more from them.
They really hate the truth shown to them.
