I believe, that the only way to travel to the past is this:

You travel faster than the speed of light to a place, where the light from earth is, say, 50 ears older that our "now".
You look at this light with a POWERFUL telescope (you can make out individual people etc). A powerful computer calculates this image into a virtual reality, and you enter it as a quest, not being able to affect anything ofcourse.
