If we close down the IRS, who will we pay the Fair Tax to?

True enough but then Who collects the federal sales tax from the States?

Re: Debate on Jobs Bill in U.S. House--Is It About Jobs or Not?
Oh, Please.

The bill was posted at 9:30 on the Internet.

The time allotted now in the House if for Discussion.

No one is assuming the bill will be passed today, just DISCUSSED today.

They are just asking people (Congressmen, especially) to get busy doing their jobs, reading the bill and talking about it. Instead they'd rather complain about how the other side introduced it, etc. Picking and finding fault.

A big waste of the people's time.

Instead of doing that they act like elementary school kids who would rather not read and just talk and criticize others in order to avoid doing any work.

They talk more about each others' tactics than they do about the contents of the bill.

Just sayin.'

House Rules which the House has passed, dictate that any given piece of legislation and amendments be online for the public to read for a couple of days, not a couple of hours.

All some is saying is "we have this rule which is law, it is time we upheld the rule and followed the law we set down."

The People want Congress accountable to the People to obey its own rules and laws.

That's fine. No one is saying not to follow the rules. But why do they have to debate this point, instead of the contents of the bill? Especially as debate has just started. No one is expecting the bill to be passed today. Why are the Republicans implying that they are?

Because they are mean-spirited and partisan. They are just sorry they didn't come up with the bill themselves.
 Quoting: New Eve

I fully agree, spend the damned time READING OUT LOUD the fracking Bill and its amendments... and cut out all this bullshit complaining and just do that, READ the bill out loud.

It really needs to be done with every single bill.

More and more of The People are now watching both the House and Senate floor debates and votes on C-Span than every before, and we the People simply want these frackers to read the fracking bills out loud.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 715509

I agree. This would be an advance for the People and for the House. They could read it aloud and then discuss what the meanings are. The bills are too complicated to expect anyone to read it and comprehend it alone, even if they are Congressmen.

Thank you, AC, this is a great suggestion. I hope you will send a letter to your Congressperson suggesting it, since you thought of it.

The question is, without a change in the orientation of the debate, will it ever get read and discussed, or will they just continue with this META-TALK, and then get so disgusted and fed up they just give up?

They spend too much time on unproductive debate, maybe not any one of their faults but just they need a change to the way they do business, i.e., read the bill out loud and then "learn" the bill before they start debate.

FWIW, I have every single year for the past 20 years sent such a letter to my House Reps and my Senators. Ah, but I am one voice out of 650,000 for my House rep and one voice of about 1.5 Million for my Senators.

If the final up/down vote on HR 1137 is taken within the hour that will mean the amendment in question will have been posted online for only 3 hours for the public to read and reflect on and contact their House Rep. with their input and thoughts.

This is PANIC Legislating.

This sort of panic legislation (at least the current flood) started with the Bank Bailout Bill back during the Bush administration and has continued at a more rapid pace under the Obama administation.

Of course nearly 93% of the former Congress was re-elected back into office, so we should not have expected anything much to change with a change in Presidents.
