An earthquake of 6.0-magnitude has killed 11 people in the eastern Turkish village of Okcular in Elazig Province, the governor of the province said.

Turkey’s Kandilli earthquake observatory said the quake measured 6.0-magnitude and had its epicenter at Basyurt-Karakocan and struck at 4:32 am local time (0232 GMT) on Monday.

Governor Muammer Erol said that he had so far received reports of a damaged house in the village.

Deadly earthquakes take place rather frequently in Turkey, which is crossed by several active fault-lines. Two powerful tremors in the heavily populated northwest claimed about 20,000 lives in August and November 1999. “
