GOP quick to release 'repeal' bills
By Michael O'Brien - 03/22/10 01:39 PM ET

House and Senate Republicans are preparing bills to repeal the health legislation approved Sunday by the House.

Reps. Steve King (R-Iowa) and Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) plan bills seeking to repeal health reform as was finally passed by the House yesterday, and Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) plans a similar bill in the Senate.

The bills, which are unlikely to advance, represent an effort by the GOP, less than 24 hours after Congress sent health reform to the president, to mount a campaign to repeal major elements — if not all — of that legislation.

“Today the work begins to repeal Obamacare and restore the principles of liberty that made America a great nation," King said in a statement Monday. "This fight is far from over.”

Added Bachmann: "I'm asking my colleagues to join me in repealing this monstrosity of a bill."

DeMint was quick to unveil his repeal legislation on Sunday night, releasing a .PDF file of a one-page bill that would simply strike the entirety of the bill passed yesterday from federal law.

For their parts, the heads of the GOP's campaign committees have said they plan to make repealing the bill a key part of their 2010 efforts. Democrats have said they welcome that campaign.

While I appreciate the effort, it's like trying to change the winning team of the Super Bowl on a technicality.

I am not a good loser either, but I truly don't think it's gonna fly. These guys don't play fair. We know that because they ignored the will of the American people.

Well, don't they have the votes in the Senate? It's the House that's the problem ... no?

What is their strategy to flip votes in the house?

I wish someone would compile a list of the most vulnerable or the most susceptible to flipping. Like Stupak, I watched the pro-lifers state a few startling claims as to that Executive Order he was given. They said that funds would be used for abortions through sub-sections of the main bill. In other words, if a person signed up at work in a group plan, and one of the other members of the group had an abortion performed, the employer would be taxed to cover the cost of it. So Federal funds per se would not be used, but the health care bill is allowing for it to be done.

As for the Executive Order, according to another Dem, law supersedes an Executive Order.

If these claims are true, could that whole group of pro-lifers be vulnerable to pressure? I mean, I'm pro-choice, but I'll email them and call them names if it gets them to change their mind.

You do realize that they are fighting the Nazi Government, a mere extension of that which crearted Hitler, right?

Not that that should stop us. It should just make us fight harder.

Have you thought that maybe the fact that the US taxpayers are so far in debt with the Federal Reserve, who we pay all our taxes to now, is looking for another stream of income from the health care debacle to pay down the debt. The gobermint is run by globilists and they want their money back and instead of raising income taxes greatly they had to figure out another way. The fed is seeking more power thru the new financial reform bill which Dodd is apparently ok with and now 16,000 more agents for health care. It is the Federal Reserve we should truly fear, they are are true masters.

Which parts should they repeal first?

Re-open the doughnut hole?

Allow insurers to kick out people with pre-existing conditions?

Take medicare away from millions?

I don't think so.

Maybe the mods read and understand the letter and intent of the constitution: LIMIT THE POWER OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.

Does that make them right wing fascists?

USA, Inc. is fascist.

A fascist is one who supports the merger of government and corporate power.

Thus, perhaps it is you who are the fascist if you support this clearly unconstitutional legislation.
